Dynamic management: Better decisions in uncertain times (McKinsey & Company)

Today we face some of the most interesting economic and business concerns that we have seen in most of our personal and professional lives. Businesses are consistently and constantly dealing with how do they maintain their footing and how do they adapt and meet the needs of business as well as the needs of the business!

No matter how you look at it, it comes down to how well are we aligned, what are we doing well and where do we have risks, and how well are we utilizing our assets - people, processes and operations - to make informed decisions to best execute our business strategies.

If the senior team is not on the same page, or even worse, does not know what the page is succinctly, then they are NOT presenting a uniformed front of who and what the business is. The outcomes or opportunities are likely functional silos.

If you do not have a clearly defined vision and strategies, then the question needs to be asked what are you measuring and subsequently what are you managing?

Implementing your company vision and strategies is not a one time planning process, that creates the "plan" and then does not use them measure and manage the business. Vision and Strategy should be known by everyone in the business - what are you and why are you here and how are you going to make it all happen. Without this you are not capable of being able measure or manage YOUR business effectively.

McKinsey & Company provides a nice insight to the ability of senior management being on the same page and learning to make informed decisions and incorporating that decision making process throughout and within the organization.

The link below is an article on "Dynamic management: Better decisions in uncertain times" - "...achieving truly dynamic management will prove elusive for most organizations until they can figure out how to get their senior leadership (say, the top 150 managers) working together in a fundamentally different way."
